Friday, November 10

This session provides an overview of what constitutes student engagement and student empowerment for the gifted and talented learner in the individualized, differentiated, and/or personalized learning classroom. We view a variety of school structures and discuss the role of gifted and talented learners in these classrooms. The presenter translates best practices into a pedagogical framework that articulates a step-by-step “how to” shift instructional focus from engagement to student empowerment. Participants leave with a menu of recommendations, including five ways to empower students, six ways to help students make good curriculum choices, and resources on harnessing student voice.
