Combined Concurrent

Striking a Balance between Discrete GT/LD Screening and Growth Mindset Practices in the High School Setting

The diverse nature of high school curricula allows for the inclusion of non-traditional GT/LD students in the GT/LD program -- students who would be appropriately served in supported Honors, AP, and specialty courses. This presentation discusses our process of profiling students who are not traditionally GT/LD, but are appropriate for supported advanced classes. Frequently, this includes screening students from underrepresented populations who have not had the opportunity for support in a rigorous academic setting. We discuss how our GT/LD team approaches identification of twice-exceptional students by focusing on equity combined with the school-wide lens of Growth Mindset.
