To prepare our students for life outside the classroom, the school day must provide opportunities for them to select and solve real-world problems. This session explains the doable integration of Genius Hour, Project-Based Learning, and "Real World" classroom activities that provide students the freedom to innovate, create, and change the world. Attendees learn techniques to embed inquiry-based learning experiences that intrinsically motivate and increase perseverance while smoothly integrating the Common Core State Standards. The presenters share their journey with sample projects and resources.

Susan Wolfe, MAT, Ed.S is a Gifted and Talented Specialist with Boise Independent School District and an educational consultant for ignitED. She is a past president of Idaho - The Association for Gifted (ITAG) and has been an active supporter of gifted and talented populations for 13 years. She currently teaches a 5/6 self-contained inquiry-based multigrade classroom. Her career reflects her passion for action research and execution of cutting edge educational thought, which manifests itself in leading academics, developing and supporting teachers, and ensuring that teachers are trained and ready for all children to learn to their highest abilities. She has been honored to serve on state and district curriculum development panels, and also to create conference presentations with a focus on techniques proven effective in developing curriculum that aligns with Common Core Standards.
Specialties: Versatile and accomplished, award-winning educator well versed in the elementary school classroom, administration, educational advocacy, serving Title 1 and gifted and talented populations, curriculum design and implementation.

Scarlett Randall, M.Ed. is a Gifted and Talented Specialist with Boise Independent School District and an educational consultant for ignitED. She has served as a board member and treasurer for Idaho- The Association for Gifted (ITAG) and is a recipient of the Idaho Gifted Education Milestone Award. Her expertise in math and science has led to many advisory panels, national presentations, curriculum development, STEM presentations, and the Southwestern Coordinator for Invent Idaho. As a public school teacher, Scarlett teaches a 3/4 self-contained gifted multigrade classroom. Her 29 years of teaching experience has spanned grades 1-8, Title I schools, and the last 11years in a gifted classroom (grades 1-6). Specialties: applied brain research principles, differentiated curriculum, educational advocacy, curriculum design and implementation.
