On the Spectrum: Strategies for Success with 2e Gifted Learners on the Autism Spectrum

Friday, November 10
9:15 AM - 10:15 AM
Location: 209 A

Sometimes the area between giftedness and an autism diagnosis can be a little... gray. Determining the presence of ASD/Asperger's can lead to either misdiagnosis or a missed diagnosis when a child is gifted. How can parents, teachers, and mental health professionals work with gifted/ASD students? What signs can differentiate between gifted behavior and ASD? What tools and strategies are useful to help these students reach their potential? Attendees of this session explore techniques for home and school to overcome some of the struggles (such as lagging social skills, rigid thinking patterns, etc.) these learners face.
