Saturday, Nov 11
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

What does Lois Lowry's "The Giver" have in common with Mesopotamia? Is utopia possible? Where does individuality end and societal responsibility begin? The Springfield Scholars Program is a full-time gifted program for middle school students in Springfield, Missouri. Sixth grade Communication Arts and Social Studies are combined in a comprehensive, cross-curricular course. Classroom instruction has been designed to highlight the natural connection between the standards and content, with an emphasis on social and emotional learning. Follow the students as they journey from ancient to modern times and grapple with questions that don't always have easy answers, and come away with activities that can be applied in your own classroom.
