17 - Crossover that Counts: Using Best Practices in Early Childhood Education to Support Young Gifted Learners

Sometimes our smallest gifted learners have some of the biggest challenges. It can be particularly difficult to meet their needs as gifted learners while keeping in mind that they are still young children. By examining best practices in both gifted education AND early childhood education, we can meet the needs of the whole child through developmentally appropriate practices.

Dr. Estee Aiken spent more than a decade teaching in public schools, including in self-contained gifted classrooms and as a differentiation coach. Since earning her docorate with a focus on gifted education, she has taught a wide variety of teacher education and early childhood courses at the University of Montana Western. Additionally, she provides regional in-service trainings about the needs of the gifted and differentiation strategies for K-12 classrooms.
