24 - Changing Our World from the Middle School Perspective

Saturday, Nov 11
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Middle schoolers get a bad rap. As a teacher, I hear it all the time: “You teach MIDDLE SCHOOL??” Brain research actually shows that, as self-centered as middle school students may seem, they really are concerned with the world around them and the impact that they can make. This PBL activity that was developed for a middle school gifted classroom, “Changing YOUR World,” incorporates research skills, building an argument (proposal), and asking higher level questions (interview skills), as well as giving students an opportunity to make a difference in their community. In this session we share ideas for organizing this type of project in a middle school classroom.
