Gain insights from the 2018 Annual Conference Committee about how to make a NAFSA conference proposal stand out. Creating and writing an excellent conference proposal and navigating the online proposal process are the keys to having an accepted proposal. Anyone interested in presenting at a future NAFSA Annual Conference should attend.

Julie Sinclair

Associate Director, Office of International Studies in Education
Michigan State University

Julie Sinclair is Associate Director, Office of International Studies in Education, College of Education at Michigan State University. She formerly coordinated sponsored student recruitment. She has a PhD in higher, adult, and lifelong education from Michigan State University. She has served many years in NAFSA member-leader positions, including the Region III chair-stream, and the Recruitment, Admission, and Preparation Knowledge Community chair-stream. Julie is currently the chair of 2018 Annual Conference Committee. Previously, Julie was director of international enrollment and student services at Oklahoma City University for 12 years. She has presented numerous workshops and sessions at NAFSA and other conferences.

Namiko O. Bagirimvano

Assistant Director for Operations, International Housing & Short Term Programs
Tacoma Community College

Namiko Bagirimvano currently serves as the Assistant Director for Operations, International Housing & Short Term Programs. She is responsible for direct supervision and daily operational needs of the international student housing and short-term programs while leading international orientation activities, serving as a DSO, assisting institutional agreements, exchange programs and recruitment. Previously, she was the Assistant Director for Retention Programs and was responsible for coordinating the international student retention efforts at the University of Arkansas including pre-arrival and arrival services, orientation, integration to campus, leadership development through cultural organizations and cross-cultural mentors, educational field trips, and visiting student programs. She specializes in intercultural exchange and program development. As to NAFSA involvement, Namiko has been active with volunteer roles; she has presented at NAFSA conferences and helped Poster Fair as Co-Poster Fair Organizer. She now serves as the Poster Chair of the 2019 & 2020 NAFSA Annual Conference in the Annual Conference Committe, as the Co-Chair for JapanSIG and as the Local Arrangement Team for NAFSA Regional I Conference that will be held in Tacoma, WA, in 2019!

Dawn Cepica is the Lead Administrator of Faculty & Staff Immigration Services in the Office of International Affairs at Texas Tech University. She has served for over 17 years working with student/scholar issues. She is a member of NAFSA Trainer Corps and presented at NAFSA conferences and training programs including "Basics of Filing Academic H-1B Petitions" and "Pathways to Permanent Residency." Dawn served as chair of the Employment Based Scholar Subcommittee-NAFSA ISSRP, the Dean of the "Basics of Filing Academic H-1B Petitions" Workshop and as the ACC 2017 Workshop Coordinator. Currently she serves on the ACC 2018 as Content Chair.

Dena Neese is Associate Director of International Support Services at Virginia Tech. Dena has handled the employment-based immigration work for two Tier-1 research institutions and has also worked in the private sector as an immigration attorney at employment-based immigration law firms. She possesses 15 years of experience in the field of employment-based immigration law. She handles both nonimmigrant and permanent residency cases and has advised institutions of higher education on their employment-immigration hiring practices.
