Join a panel of intensive English program (IEP) experts to gain an understanding of the wide variety of IEP models. Panelists discuss the common components and varied approaches to designing and administering an IEP. Topics include structures, benefits and costs, accreditation, SEVP certifiability, and pathway options.

Joann Ng Hartmann

Senior Director
NAFSA: Association of International Educators

Joann Ng Hartmann is the Senior Director for International Enrollment Management-International Student and Scholar Services at NAFSA: Association of International Educators. The IEM-ISS Services department serves as a comprehensive source of knowledge for professionals working with incoming international students and scholars including recruitment, admissions, intensive English programs, advising and support services. In her capacity, Joann provides strategic staff leadership for professional development, programs and services related to IEM-ISS. Prior to joining NAFSA, Joann spent 18+ years at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she was responsible for managing the student and scholar services unit, including institutional compliance, orientation, and student/scholar advising support services. Joann was an active volunteer for NAFSA in various regional and national capacities. She has presented many workshops and sessions at regional and national conferences. She holds an MS in communication from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette.

James Hamrick

University of Tennessee-Knoxville English Language Institute

Jim Hamrick directs the English Language Institute at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His professional interests include curriculum development and program evaluation. Jim has been involved in ESL/EFL for more than thirty years. He has taught English in Japan and China and has trained teachers in Poland and Saudi Arabia. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina, a master’s from Georgetown University, and a doctorate from the University of Michigan.

Jeff Hutcheson

Senior Director, US Operations
ELS Language Centers

Jeff Hutcheson has over 25 years in International Education, working primarily within the ESL profession. Beginning with teaching EFL in Thailand at Chulalongkorn University to currently serving as the Senior Director of US Operations for ELS Language Centers, Jeff’s professional career has focused on Higher Education Administration and Policy, Organizational Development, Compliance and Quality Management, Internationalization and Global Competencies, and Student Affairs. Jeff has also served as the NAFSA Region VII Chair and as President and VP of Advocacy on the Board of EnglishUSA, and he holds an MA from Western Kentucky University and is ABD from Peabody College, Vanderbilt University.

Patricia Juza

University of Colorado-Boulder

Patricia Juza is the Director of the International English Center at the University of Colorado Boulder. Previously, she was the Director of Global Programs at Baruch College, City University of New York. She has served in various leadership roles including, the UCIEP board of directors, the EnglishUSA executive board, the NAFSA Region X team, and New York State TESOL board. Currently, she is the Immediate Past President of UCIEP. Patricia has given numerous talks on international education program development, policy, regulation, and accreditation for the US Department of Commerce, US Department of State/EducationUSA, TESOL, and NAFSA. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Government from Cornell University, and her Master of Arts in TESOL from Teachers College, Columbia University.
