What does this mean for international students studying in the United States or study abroad students on your programs? When, and to what extent, will you comply with the Dear Colleague letter issued by the U.S. Department of Education?

Erin Hillis

Associate Director of International Programs
Rhodes College

Dr. Erin Hillis is the Associate Director of International Programs and the PDSO at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. She is also an adjunct Educational Studies faculty member in the field of TEFL. She received her PhD in Applied Linguistics (2017) from The University of Memphis; previous degrees are an MA in English as a Second Language (2000) and a BA in Linguistics (1998) from the University of Memphis. She is primarily responsible for F and J international students and exchange programs at the College, but also works with US students and faculty on study abroad exchanges and programming. Erin currently serves on the Chair-stream for NAFSA Region VII and was previously involved in the leadership for both the Tennessee Association of International Educators and Study Tennessee. Erin has been in the field of international education since 2004 and routinely presents for national and regional NAFSA conferences on topics such as diversity in study abroad, LGBTQ issues in international education, academic ethics across cultures, technology, and international student academic support.

Lance Poston

Director of LGBTQ* Resources
University of Kentucky

Lance is the inaugural Director of LGBTQ* Resources at the University of Kentucky. In this capacity, he leads diversity and inclusivity focused initiatives across the state's flagship, land-grant insition that support students, faculty, staff, alumni, and patients. He received an undergraduate degree from Presbyterian College and a master's degree from Ohio University (OU). Before becoming a Wildcat, he was a faculty member in the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at OU where he is also a PhD Candidate in history. Lance is a trained oral historian with research interests in the intersections of race, religion, and sexuality in the US.

Outside of teaching and research, Lance has extensive experience in university advocacy and non-profit management. He has served on the boards of many forward-thinking state and regional organizations and is a frequent consultant for educational institutions around inclusive policymaking and staff development.
