This session provides an overview of the educational system in Cuba and reviews the current changes. Learn strategies to detect unauthentic documents and gain a better understanding of the credentials available at various educational levels.

Nancy Katz has worked actively in the field of international education for more than 25 years in both academic university settings as well as credential evaluation services. A regular presenter at regional and national conferences, Katz has vast experience in training individuals in the field of foreign credential evaluation, detecting altered documents, and diploma mills. Katz has most recently chaired, organized, and presented at numerous professional conferences on the issues revolving around diploma mills and the evaluation of foreign academic credentials.

Freda Clement Willis

Ms. Freda Clement-Willis has been working in the field of international education for over 20 years in various roles, including Senior Credentials Evaluator, Senior Associate Director for Evaluations and Foreign Credential Evaluator. Ms. Clement-Willis has been a contributor and led presentations on a variety of topics in international education in various international, national, state and local professional conferences, including NAFSA: Association for International Educators, AACRAO-American Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers, and EAIE-European Association for International Education. Her area of expertise includes educational systems in Latin America.

Dr. Lou Nunes is the President of Academic Evaluation Services, Inc. She has been working in the field of international education for over 30 years in various roles, including Credentials Evaluator, Translator, Mentor, and Consultant. Dr. Nunes is the author of the Country Study: Brazil, a joint AACRAO / NAFSA / PIER Project, 2004. She is a contributor to the NAFSA Online Guide to Educational Systems Around the World, Brazil and Cuba, and to the AACRAO EDGE on Brazil, Cuba, Portuguese-Speaking African countries - Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, and São Tomé & Príncipe. Dr. Nunes has also been a presenter in various professional conferences, including NAFSA, AACRAO and EAIE. Dr. Nunes has been a Trainer Corps Member since 2003. In the past, she has held the position of the Core Education Program (CEP) Workshop Dean for the Workshops on International Credentials Evaluation and she has been the Lead Trainer is various CEP Workshops. Dr. Nunes is currently the Chair for the Resources for Members Committee with TAICEP, The Association for International Credential Evaluation Professional. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction degree from LSU. She is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish; she has working knowledge of French.
