This session aims to provide time-saving, budget-friendly tools and takeaways to help professionals in all areas and skill levels of international education to successfully execute their daily tasks and capitalize on their marketing and communication efforts.

Janka Pieper

Director of Communications
Northwestern University

Janka Pieper is the Director of Communications at the Office of International Relations at Northwestern University, where she is in charge of telling her institution’s international story. Until 2016, Janka was the Assistant Director of Communications at the Office of International Program Development at Northwestern University, where she led integrated marketing campaigns and developed communication plans for the university’s global initiatives and internationalization efforts, primarily focusing on study abroad, institutional international partnerships, and global health. Janka is the co-founder and current co-chair of NAFSA’s Marketing & Communications Member Interest Group.

Communications & Marketing Specialist

Carrie is the Communications and Marketing Specialist in the Study Abroad Office at Arizona State University. Prior to joining ASU, she worked in various capacities promoting education abroad and meaningful travel in the .com realm and taught communication classes to undergraduate students. Her responsibilities include developing and executing communication and marketing strategies to increase study abroad participation at Arizona State University.

Emily Kirsch

Emily Kirsch works as an International Marketing and Recruitment Coordinator at Humboldt State University (HSU) in northern California. She received her undergraduate degree in International Studies from HSU in 2007, spent a semester studying abroad in China, and went on to earn her Master of Arts in International Education at SIT Graduate Institute.

Troy Stiles

Marketing Communications Manager
International Studies Abroad

Troy has worked in the field of international education since 2013 and has a diverse professional background working in in-house and agency marketing environments. He started his career in web design for a PBS affiliate and was a graphic designer and layout editor for several newspapers. Since then, Troy has overseen event promotions and branding for a U.S. Olympic Committee member organization and directed social media and content marketing efforts for an advertising agency in Colorado Springs. He currently oversees content and social media marketing and online advertising efforts for International Studies Abroad. Troy has earned a B.S. in Technology from Bowling Green State University and an International MBA from the University of Denver.
