Paul Edwards

Intercultural Trainer and Academic Advisor
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities

Dr. Paul Edwards is an Intercultural Trainer and Academic Advisor in the College of Education and Human Development (Department of Educational Psychology) at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. He is a co-investigator in a research project designed to identify promising practices in the engagement of underrepresented students, including students with disabilities, in international educational. In addition, he has developed evidence-based curricular support for pre-travel, identity-based reflective preparation of US students of color for study abroad. He also provides direct support for diverse students including international students, underrepresented minority students, low income/first-generation students, and students with disabilities. Dr. Edwards has international educational, research, humanitarian, and other travel experience in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, and North/South America over the past 25 years.

Rachel Garaghty

Development Professional

Rachel Garaghty, Master of Public Policy, is a graduate of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs in Global Policy and Human Rights. She is also an advocate for international disability rights and disability inclusion in global education and careers. Rachel is a person with a disability and studied abroad in Tanzania through a self-designed learning program while enrolled at the Humphrey School. Her focus was Tanzanian disabled persons' organizations. Rachel's experience includes interning for the U.S. International Council on Disabilities, leading an interdisciplinary student group on international development, and working for Perkins International, a global leader in education for people with disabilities.

Christopher J. Johnstone

Assistant Professor
University of Minnesota College of Education and Human Development

Christopher Johnstone, PhD, is assistant professor of comparative and international development education at the University of Minnesota. In this role he co-leads the university's Leadership in International Education doctorate program. He is the former director of international initiatives for the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota (UMN). His research interests include internationalization of higher education, social justice applications in the internationalization process, and inclusive education. His current projects include a research project in Mumbai, India; evaluation projects in Kenya and Tanzania; and a study of international student outcomes at his home university. In 2015, Johnstone was awarded his university's Award for Global Engagement for his efforts toward comprehensively internationalizing his college.
