Exchange programs are often a lower-cost alternative for students studying abroad, but they can be resource intensive to administer. Learn strategies to identify and assess potential new partners, build institutional champions on the home campus, and create efficient administrative tools for sustainable growth.

Kim Howard

University of Vermont Office of International Education

Kim Howard has served as the director of the University of Vermont Office of International Education, an inbound/outbound office, since 2008. During her tenure, the office has implemented data management and work flow technology systems for both study abroad and international student/scholar services; doubled its international student population; brought in-house H-1B and permanent residency filings; and undertaken an institution-wide initiative to dramatically expand student mobility through bilateral exchange programs. Kim oversees the institutional coordination of policies and best practices for health and safety of students studying abroad.

David Cheng

Director of Global Engagement Office
City University of Hong Kong

Dr. David X. Cheng is head of Global Engagement Office at City University of Hong Kong (CityU). He joined CityU in 2010 and is in charge of the University’s global affairs. In this role, he is responsible for implementing the University’s internationalization strategy and academic collaborations. He came to Hong Kong from Columbia University, where he served as Assistant Dean at Columbia College and School of Engineering and Applied Science and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Organization and Leadership, Teachers College. He was also Executive Director for international dual degree programs in the Office of the Provost and the founding Executive Director of Columbia Global Center in Beijing. Prior to joining Columbia, he worked as an institutional researcher, administrator, and faculty member at City University of New York and University of California.

Pamela Thompson, Outbound Exchange Coordinator, University of Adelaide

Pamela Thompson is Outbound Exchange Coordinator at the University of Adelaide, responsible for all outbound students on semester or year-length programs. Prior to this Pamela worked in the student mobility space within the Faculty of the Professions at the University of Adelaide and in the international student recruitment space within the Division of Health Sciences at the University of South Australia.
