International Partnerships Portfolio Management

Partnership management has become a priority among higher education institutions, with many international offices creating a function to manage partnerships or absorb the responsibility into existing roles. The partnerships portfolio is complicated, requiring stakeholder buy-in and well-developed processes. In this session, learn the basics and key practices for successful portfolio management.

Clare Banks is currently the Director of IIE Initiatives and the Center for International Partnerships at the Institute of International Education. In this role, Ms. Banks manages IIE’s Center for International Partnerships and a range of programs focused on fostering sustainable, strategic linkages. Among those programs are the IIE International Academic Partnership Program, the Global Partnership Service, the Global Innovation Initiative, the EducationUSA Leadership Institutes, and the IIE Connecting with the World course in Myanmar. Her most recent publication is the IIE/DAAD book, Global Perspectives on Strategic International Partnerships: A Guide to Building Sustainable Academic Linkages. Ms. Banks holds a BA in Spanish from Georgetown University and an MA in International Education from New York University.

Chad Hoseth

Director, International Initiatives
Colorado State University

Chad Hoseth is Director of International Initiatives at Colorado State University. He promotes campus-wide comprehensive internationalization by developing and supporting a wide range of international education, research, and engagement initiatives. Chad manages CSU’s portfolio of global partnerships, and helps guide the implementation of partnership activities such as dual degree academic programs and joint research efforts. The International Initiatives team also provides on-campus academic and co-curricular programs that promote intercultural understanding and create local opportunities for global engagement. Chad has been a Fulbright Scholar to Korea, and he is pursuing his Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership at Colorado State University.

Bob Korzeniowski

Bob Korzeniowski (BSc, Exec MBA) is the International Relations Officer in charge of the International Partnerships portfolio at The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He has worked in the field of international education for more than 20 years, with a focus on international partnerships for the past several years. In his current role at UBC he oversees the development and management of processes and strategies for creating sustainable international partnerships with other institutions. He is currently reviewing approaches and criteria which will help guide the establishment of a network of UBC key strategic partners worldwide. Previously he was Director of the International Relations Office at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, where he led the strategy for creating international partnerships and increasing student mobility.

Dale LaFleur

Senior Director, International Partnerships
University of Arizona

Dale has over eighteen years of professional experience in international education focusing on the development of institutional partnerships and student mobility and leadership programs. She spent a year abroad in the United Kingdom which propelled her into the field of international education. She received her M.A. in student development administration from Seattle University and her Ph.D. from the Center for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Arizona with an emphasis on international education and partnerships. She has held various volunteer roles for NAFSA: Association of International Educators and her alma mater, Smith College, and has presented at NAFSA national and regional conferences as well as at CONAHEC and the AIEA annual conferences. In 2013, she was selected as a member of the Fulbright International Education Administrator Program to Japan and in 2014 was invited to participate in the Baden-Württemberg Administrator Seminar in Germany. Dale has also served as an instructor for a Leadership Strategies undergraduate course and a guest lecturer in Comparative Education graduate level course at the University of Arizona. In 2018, she was selected to be part of the Academic Leadership Institute at the University of Arizona.
