Gain insights into opportunities for student recruitment and strategic partnerships in Latin America in the midst of peaking youth populations, higher education reform, and an uncertain economic outlook. Forecasts and trends from new research will be presented alongside views from higher education experts from Brazil, Mexico, and Peru.

Salvador is currently leading the Education, Science and Innovation agenda of the British Council in the Americas region, with oversight of the services to promote UK HE institutions, policy frameworks such as Mutual Recognition of Qualifications, the capacity building programmes under the Newton Fund run by the BC, and developing the regional strategy to enhance capacities in local HE institutions. Salvador joined the British Council having spent four years working for the UK’s government leading the science and innovation cooperation with Mexico, including the joint Newton Fund to improve human resources, develop joint research and accelerate innovation. Prior to that, he spent four years in the academic, public and private sectors in Mexico, US, Belgium and the UK after graduating as an economist.

Prof. José Celso Freire Junior has a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Joseph Fourier University, France. He is the Associate Professor of São Paulo State University, UNESP in Brazil. He is now the current Associate Provost for International Affairs at UNESP and the President of FAUBAI, the Brazilian Association for International Education, and as such has participated as a panelist in several international events like Going Global, EAIE, NAFSA, and AIEA.

Sergio Martínez holds Masters in International Relations from the University of Melbourne, Australia, he has a B.A. in International Relations from the Universidad Iberoamericana and currently he is Director of Interinstitutional Partnerships at the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Organizations – ANUIES (Mexico).

Among his tasks, he links ANUIES with different actors: government agencies, national and international organizations and companies. He also develops calls that are beneficial for ANUIES affiliated HEIs and creates opportunities for students, faculty and staff.

Before joining ANUIES, Mr. Martinez worked at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE) as Student Exchange Coordinator. He also worked at the General Direction of International Relations of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP).
