This session explores the role of faculty in linking education abroad learning outcomes to student employability. Presenters review the AAC&U LEAP project framework for learning outcomes and best practice roles for education abroad staff, career service professionals, and faculty in ensuring effective integration of career-related outcomes.

Martin Tillman

Global Career Compass

Martin Tillman is a national thought-leader and expert on the linkage of education abroad to student career development and employability. His international consultancy, Global Career Compass, assists international educators develop campus policies and programs furthering support for, and understanding of, the linkage of education abroad to career development and employability. He is former (Ret.) associate director of career services at the Johns Hopkins University Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies. A NAFSA member since 1977, he is a frequent conference presenter, contributor for twenty years of book reviews to “International Educator" magazine, and author of numerous publications about global workforce development and the impact of education abroad on student employability. He served as chair of NAFSA's 2008 Global Workforce Development Career Resources Task Force. His “AIFS Student Guide to Study Abroad and Career Development” is a frequently cited resource in study abroad and career offices around the country. His blog, Global Career Compass, is widely read.

Steve leads the global education and internationalization efforts for the University of Nebraska, working with all four campuses of the university to support international students and education abroad and to develop global engagement programs for faculty, staff, students and community partners. He is the author of Preparing to Study Abroad: Learning to Cross Cultures (Stylus, 2014), as well as articles on international education, cross-cultural teaching and learning, and Russian and Baltic history. He was selected for a Fulbright International Education Administrators Seminar in France in 2017.
