Learn how to handle the most common requests made of new U.S. designated school officials (DSOs). Topics covered include issuing I-20s, maintaining status, employment, practical training, travel and reentry, and program extensions. SEVIS is discussed in relation to international student advising practices and procedures.

Shao Chen Pan-Carr, she also goes by Johanna, DSO and International Student Advisor at Fordham University's Office for International Services, 5 years in international student advising. Lead Trainer for F1 Beginners workshop at 2017 NAFSA LA Conference and Lead Trainer for F1 Intermediate workshop at the 2017 NAFSA Region X Conference in Princeton, NJ. Johanna served as Region X NY Downstate Representative in 2015 and 2016. She is also the recipient of the 2016 NAFSA Rising Star Young Leader Award.

Mladenka Tomasevic

Senior Associate Director for International Students

Mladenka was born and raised in Montenegro, and came to the U.S. in 2001 as an international student. She holds a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Belgrade, Serbia and an M.A. in Communications from Washington State University. Her career in the field of international education began in 2004 at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She has been at Princeton University since 2006, where she currently serves as the Senior Associate Director for International Students. Mladenka is an active member of NAFSA, having served on both regional and national teams and committes. Prior to coming to the U.S. in 2001, she spent a few years working in the field of foreign affairs in Montenegro and Slovenia.

Paolo Daniele

University of Oregon Office of International Students and Scholars Services

Paolo Daniele is the director of internaitonal students' special programs for the Division of Global Engagement and coordinator of inbound Fulbright, exchange, short-term and visiting student programs at the University of Oregon, where he also serves as an international student advisor and an advocate for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program. Previously, Paolo served as program manager for the UCSF Institute for Quantitative Biosciences where he was called to assist in the marketing aspect of partnering industry with academia, and for UCLA’s Postdoctoral Scholar Affairs Office. He earned his MPA with a focus on international education from California State University Long Beach.

Jeannie Wang, Assistant Dean/Director of International Student and Scholar Services at Rutgers Universit Newark and a NAFSA member since 1997, is responsible for providing leadership, training and services to the international student and scholar community at Rutgers - Newark. Educated in China, Canada and the U.S., she has devoted her career in international education, covering the areas of international services, study abroad, exchange and teaching ESL except for a few years in academic advising and international business. Prior to joining Rutgers-Newark in 2008, she served as Director of International Students & Scholars Office of Pace University in New York.
