Session: Practical Approaches to Assessing Outreach and Marketing Initiatives at Your Library

Tuesday, May 30
3:00 PM - 4:25 PM
Room: 607

Every library’s strategic plan includes appropriate and effective marketing of their services and resources to their community, whether that be an academic campus, hospital, or engagement initiatives with local populations. But, how do you know if you’re successfully reaching your library users? As libraries and librarians continuously evolve to meet the demands of our users, so do our methods for promoting our resources and services including social media, print media, instruction, events, exhibits, and more. One of the major challenges is assessing if these techniques are effective. This special content session will feature a panel of speakers who will share their practical approaches to measuring the success (or not) of their marketing and outreach initiatives, including promoting a new informationist program, assessing a library's social media presence, and measuring the success of services targeting underserved community members. Other libraries may modify and adapt these assessment techniques at their own institutions. Co-sponsored by the Outreach and Marketing SIG and Public Services Section.
