5319 - Developing a Connected Asset/IoT Security Program

Tuesday, September 26
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

With the proliferation of IoT and "smart devices," companies large and small are developing connected assets to provide new revenue streams and capabilities that their customers demand. Additionally, these very companies rely on smart devices and IoT to develop their own IoT devices for markets. Caterpillar has been developing "Smart Iron" for years, with autonomous vehicles, connected generator sets and multi-sensor equipment with the capabilities to send this information to a big data analytics hub for predictive failures and maintenance/service notifications. These devices demand security for not only the traditional confidentiality-integrity-availability security triad, but to ensure the safety and quality for customers, employees and the general public.

This session will cover Caterpillar's journey to ensure the safety and security of its equipment, and how it developed a Connected Asset Security Program and integrate into an existing enterprise security program.
