4419 - OSINT Research for a Better World: How to Catch a Sexual Predator
Monday, September 25
4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Everyone knows to secure their personal data to protect themselves from cybercriminals phishing for information and vulnerabilities. Despite this, many investigators don’t give a great deal of attention to the publicly accessible digital information on their suspects. Thirty-three children are abducted by a non-family member every single day. Sexual predators exist in every town and in every state. Many of them use chat forums and social media to lure their victims, or find personal information on them.
This presentation focuses on using those same online tools against the perpetrators. In this presentation, we will build a whole profile on a perpetrator with only pieces of information and no direct contact with suspects, friends or families.
- Build a profile on a suspected criminal.
- Understand how internet privacy is just as contingent on the people you know as it is on the steps you take to secure yourself personally.
- Make better use of attendees' own OSINT tools and skills, relying less on the myth that you need access to a government database to collect valuable information about a person.
