Based on years of experience responding to data breaches, the speakers have real-life stories and warnings concerning the legal requirements and pitfalls in breach response. Peter Vogel has 40 years of experience as an attorney and a master's degree in computer science. Eddie Block, CISSP, has 20 years of experience in cybersecurity and served as the CISO for the state of Texas. Eddie is now a senior attorney at a Texas-based law firm. Based on their experience using outside counsel in coordination with the breach response team, this session discusses legal protections concerning response efforts.

Edward "Eddie" Block has more than 20 years of experience as an information security professional, primarily focused on the effects of new technology and emerging law on personal privacy. In his former role as CISO and cybersecurity coordinator for the state of Texas, Eddie modernized Texas’ information security rules, developed statewide security controls and worked with the Texas legislature to implement strong information security standards.
He has performed penetration tests and managed technical teams performing all aspects of information security.

As an attorney, Eddie uses his technical security knowledge to ensure clients are in compliance with state, federal and international regulations. He also counsels on security breach planning and provides guidance on their cyber insurance needs.
