5415 - Listen, Learn and Yell: Why IT Professionals and Lawyers Are a Good 'A Team'

IT professionals and lawyers are built from the same DNA. Both are mostly introvert and speak in coded languages, but do they ever think of being a team? They should. The core of good data security involves technical skills, a policy wonk mindset and a shared mission of advocacy. Firewalls, scans and data-loss protection measures will fail unless easily understood policies and instruction follow, with a heavy emphasis on understanding company culture, drafting fair-but-firm guidelines with real consequences, and the single-minded purpose of listening, learning and adapting to internal and external threats. Sometimes this means yelling to be heard over the flood of information—or yelling at the flood of ignorance.
