POSTER SESSION A: Ar Hi De Ub Cr
This work presents the evolution of the cartographic representation of the region between the Rio Grande and the Rio Paranaiba before consolidation of the territory of Araxá (Minas Gerais, Brazil), with the creation of its municipality in 1831, using colonial and imperial mapping references, from the 19th century. Based on official information on administrative formation of Araxá and other municipalities in the region, we demonstrate the origin of all the municipalities that now make up the Mesoregion of Triangulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaiba (66 municipalities) in the territory of the Old Municipality of Araxá. In addition to parts of Mesoregion of Northwest Minas Gerais (5 municipalities) and Mesoregion Central Minas Gerais (5 municipalities), totaling 76 municipalities. Concluding that 8.9% of Brazilian municipalities in the state of Minas Gerais and 1.3% of the municipalities in Brazil are from of Old Municipality of Araxá Territory. The Cartographic representation of the Old Municipality of Araxá Territory is the result of a historical and Cartographic reconstruction of the process of creation of municipalities, started of the current territorial configuration and, following a pattern of genealogical research, and making the reverse logic of territorial configuration, with the method of Territorial Origin Identification, Municipality Classification and Assignment of Territorial Municipality Source Code, created for this research, were reconstituted territorial configurations generation by generation, thus coming to the projection of the Territorial Area of the Old Municipality of Araxa: 105,301.07 km² in 1835.
