Development of any science, and first of all Cartography as a science which has general scientific methods, is tightly connected with history of country's development. Ukrainian Cartographic School was a strong part of Soviet Union's Cartographic School till 1991. The Ukrainian School maintained not only many trends and missions which had been initiated in Moscow but it had leading positions in some of these areas such as Geoecology, Environment, Education, Tourist, Social-economic mapping.
Historically in Soviet Union were intensively developed two branches of Cartography: theoretical and technical, while applied trends were Ukrainian scholars' prerogative.
Nowadays such position of Ukrainian cartographers has negative aftermath - in modern conditions in education system reform the Cartography has been "lost" in a Nature Sciences list. It will lead us in our opinion not only to disappearance of Scientific Schools but also will narrow the role of Cartography to the method of processes and phenomenon research in "Nature-Society-Human" system.
Using content-analysis we were studied 1) place of Cartography in Systems of Sciences in different countries in Europe, Asia and America, 2) predominant conceptions of Cartography development in depend of predominant one or another Scientific Schools.
The results of our research allow us to state that history, tendencies and development features of Cartography in Ukraine indicate appropriateness of classifying this science to the Natural, in particular Earth sciences.
