3610.1 - Developing Indoor Navigation and Orientation on Mobile Devices using Tango Technology

Monday, July 3
2:50 PM - 3:10 PM
Location: Coolidge

Currently one of the greatest challenges for mobile assisted navigation is creating and distributing indoor models of space. Recently Google created a multi-sensor mobile device called the Tango. This Tango mobile device has several sensors designed to handle: motion tracking, area learning and depth perception. The goal of this research is to examine how this combination of technologies can aid indoor navigation and orientation. The investigators will look at three issues regarding the Tango device. First is to examine existing applications designed for the Tango device. Secondly, new applications will be developed that address the observed shortcomings that existing regarding the Tango device’s functionality as a navigational aid. Finally, methods will be considered for sharing learned indoor environments with other Tango devices and its users. The results of this system design and implementation research will provide a framework that leads to additional user Interaction research questions and studies.
