Abstract: Research on the importance of road normally considers only the properties of the road itself, such as its length, width, degree of connectivity, rank and so on. In recent years, with the increase of vehicles all over the world, the importance of the road can also be reflected by the vehicle’s choices on the road indirectly. In addition, with the widespread use of sensing devices and automated acquisition methods, the information based on floating vehicles, such as trajectory data, can also be used as an important basis for the description of road information and discovery of knowledge. Therefore, a method to calculate the importance of roads that takes into account the dynamic attributes of vehicle trajectory on the road is proposed by this paper. While computing the importance of the road, we take not only the length, degree of connectivity, and network density into consideration, but also the traffic flow, average speed and preference factor. This paper also mentions a method to discretize the attribute data, which has been used to discretize the attribute data involved. Then, we calculated the weight of each attribute by Rough Set Theory. Finally, we figured out the importance of the road by a formula. The experiment was carried out on the track data and road data of Wuhan city. The results show that the roads' importance of calculating can reflect the real importance of the road clearly. Compared with the traditional ways which obtain the importance of the road based on the attributes of the road itself, the method presented in this paper is more accurate and can reflect the real situation of the road. In the process of selecting the road, we can select the required road network accurately by the method.
