Since its rapid development in this ever increasingly complex world, smartphone positioning has emerged as a growing research field and technology adding values to the navigation and mobile location service industries. This study presents a methodology for determining the floor number of a smartphone moving in a multi-storey building. The proposed methodology used initial information such as floor height and total number of floors as the input data provided by the use of near field communication technology. Floor information was determined by using pressure changes calculated based on the differences in values between pressure estimations of Kalman Filtering process and measurements by smartphone’s pressure sensor. The methodology of this study was implemented as an Android application. Tests were conducted in various buildings and results proved the success of the application
