Associate Director
Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard

Dr. Facundo Batista is the Associate Director of the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard and the Phillip and Susan Ragon Professor of Immunology at Harvard University and the Ragon Institute. Dr. Batista is a leader in the fields of B cell biology. During his scientific career, he has focused on addressing fundamental questions concerning the molecular and cellular events underlying B cell activation, fate determination and antibody responses. Dr. Batista received undergraduate degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and his Ph.D. from the International School of Advances Studies, Trieste, Italy. He has trained as a postdoctoral fellow with Michael Neuberger at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK. Prior to his appointment at the Ragon Institute, he was a Group Leader in the London Research Institute (now The Francis Crick Institute, UK) for the past 15 years.

Dr. Batista has served on the editorial boards of several journals such as Science, EMBO, Elife, Nature Cell Biology and Immunology. His attempts bridge basic B cell biology with health-related outcomes, led to the development of a novel strategy to generate monoclonal antibodies upon B cell stimulation, which lead to the spinoff company BliNK Therapeutics Ltd. Dr. Batista has been the recipient of several honors; he was elected to the EMBO Young Investigator Programme in 2009, and awarded EMBO full membership in 2013. He is also a recipient of the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Science.
