Since 2015, Prof. Windecker has been the Chairman and Director of the Department of Cardiology at the Swiss Cardiovascular Center Bern, Switzerland. He is an interventional cardiologist by training and has previously served as Director of Invasive Cardiology at Bern University Hospital from 2002 to 2015. He is full Professor of Cardiology at the University of Bern, Switzerland and executive board member of the Clinical Trials Unit at Bern University Hospital. Prof. Windecker is currently Chairman of the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee of the European Society of Cardiology . He is also one of the course directors of EuroPCR and PCR London Valves. Prof. Windecker has been a Fulbright scholar and received the I2-summit Innovator 2005 Award of the American College of Cardiology.
Prof. Windecker’s main research interests focus on the evaluation of intracoronary devices for the treatment of coronary artery disease, research related to structural heart disease including transcatheter aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve interventions, patent foramen ovale (PFO), left atrial appendage occlusion as well as percutaneous left ventricular assist devices.
