Janis (Jan) T. Ground

Jan Ground PT, MBA, is the Director of Virtual Care, and the Innovation Hunter for the Colorado Region of Kaiser Permanente. Her work supports innovation initiatives to enable members to get care anywhere and providers to provide care from anywhere. Areas of focus include video visits, remote patient monitoring, mobile apps, and social media in care delivery. She co-leads KPCO’s Emerging Technologies Advisory Group and has led the region’s Innovation Team. Jan provides training in Innovation, Meeting Management, and Leading People through Change.

Jan joined Kaiser Permanente in 1999 with a BA in psychology, and graduate degrees in Physical Therapy, Exercise Physiology and Business Administration. Previous employers include Children’s Hospital National Medical Center, All Children’s Hospital, University Community Hospital, Lammers+Gershon, Andersen Consulting, BCBS.

Paul Bernstein

Dr. Bernstein began his education at UCLA, where he graduated “summa cum laude” with a BA in History. He earned his medical degree at UCSD Medical School, where he completed a Surgery Internship and a Head and Neck Surgery Residency.
He joined Kaiser Permanente in 1980, and has been a partner for over 30 years. He was chief of Head and Neck Surgery and then Regional Chief. He was named Partner of the Year for San Diego in 2005, and won the Schilling Award for most compassionate physician in 2007. He became an elected member of the Board of Directors in 2008 and became Medical Director for San Diego on May 26, 2009. Upon completion of his term as Medical Director, Dr. Bernstein was appointed as the Regional Coordinator for Telehealth and Virtual Care for Kaiser Permanente Southern California.

Dr. Bernstein is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgy, and a past faculty member of the American Society for Mohs Surgery. He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Head and Neck Surgery at UCSD, and was the Chair of the Head and Neck Division of the American Cancer Society, Border Region.
In addition to his work as a surgeon, Dr. Bernstein is the author of "Courage to Heal," winner of the San Diego Book Awards, San Francisco Book Awards, and the London Book Festival, based on the life of Sidney Garfield and the history of Kaiser Permanente. He has completed 5 other novels, including his latest medical thriller, “Flashblind,” “Rock Bottom,” and “Rerun.”
