Learning Objectives:

Susan E. Yamamoto

Telemedicine Coordinator
Shriners Hospitals for Children

Susan Yamamoto has worked at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Honolulu for 28 years in various nursing roles. Serving as the Admissions Coordinator for over 20 years, she gained a working knowledge of the cultural diversity of the Pacific Region that is served by the Shriners Hospital system. SHC has provided specialty care to children without regard for their ability to pay for that care for over 90 years. Working as the Telemedicine Coordinator for the past 5 years, networks have been developed to enhance services, allowing a multidisciplinary approach to care management for the children of Hawaii and the Pacific Island neighbors. More recently, partnerships have been developed with other organizations serving these same vulnerable populations. The Pacific Islands EMSC Region has partnered with Shriners to promote Telemedicine in the region. Recognizing video conferencing as an invaluable tool, Susan has worked to bridge the vast distances of the Pacific Ocean to improve the availability of specialty care to children using Telemedicine.
