Landscape architects working in fragile ecosystems along exposed coastlines and barrens face the challenge of reversing ecological degradation in the age of the Anthropocene. Recent work in delicate, sensitive ecosystems, including successes and opportunities in design and building of high-quality and functional landscapes affected by climate change will be presented.

In 2015, Virginia was elevated to Fellow in both the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) and the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). Recent awards include two National CSLA Awards of Excellence in 2017. For over 30 years, Virginia’s international award winning work has been recognized in the design of healing gardens, labyrinths and sacred spaces. Cornelia Hahn Oberlander

Cornelia Hahn Oberlander has practiced for six decades and collaborated with noted international architects throughout her career. Her many awards include the 2016 inaugural Governor General’s Medal in Landscape Architecture, the 2012 ASLA Medal, given in recognition of her unfaltering leadership and award winning work in postwar landscape architecture, and the 2011 Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award from the International Federation of Landscape Architects. With an emphasis on sustainability as well as artfulness, Cornelia continues to pursue the aesthetic, ecological and technical possibilities of landscape architecture, with the goal of achieving worldwide community well being.
