As an emerging market for community planners and urban designers in north Africa, Morocco is taking a leading role in sustainable infrastructure and development on the African continent. This session examines how community design is shaped by Morocco’s unique societal crossroads of blended cultures, peoples, languages, and environment.

Brett is a Senior Landscape Architect and Urban Designer for Jacobs. Focused on elevating the practice’s design leadership, Brett has extensive experience in all aspects of urban design and landscape architecture for diverse public and private projects in the United States, Africa, Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Caribbean. With a proven record of thoughtful design and thorough implementation, his diverse project experience includes mixed-use developments, urban regeneration strategies, corporate campuses, university campuses, and hospitality and resorts.

Matt Friesen

Senior Landscape Architect

Matt Friesen is a senior landscape architect, certified planner and urban designer whose interests and experience include creative, sustainable approaches for all project types, with a focus on mixed-use, academic, commercial, and transportation infrastructure. He is committed to an enabling, participatory design process, and bridging the various disciplines required to address today’s complex projects. Matt is passionate about delivering challenging projects, and achieving his client’s goals through the creation of ecologically balanced, artistic environments.

Hicham Meftah

JESA Studio

Hicham is the Director of the JESA Studio – a planning and design studio based in Casablanca, Morocco. As an architect and urban designer, Hicham provides design leadership for the firm’s education, hospitality, urban infill and corporate projects. Hicham is a native-Moroccan and educated in France and US. With an extensive design career spanning both Casablanca and Paris in large projects based in Russia and Middle east ,after is international experience he decided to come back to morocco to found Jesa Studio, his focus is expanding the firm’s reach within Morocco and across Europe, Middle East and Africa.
