Internationally renowned landscape design firm West 8 and German playground manufacturer Richter Spielgeräte have partnered to design some of the world’s most inventive and rewarding playscapes. This panel will engage in a conversation about the social necessity of play, childhood today, and designing public playscapes for all ages.

West 8

Adriaan Geuze is one of the founders of West 8 urban design & landscape architecture b.v., a leading urban design practice in Europe. Geuze attended the Agricultural University of Wageningen where he received a Masters degree in Landscape Architecture. After winning the prestigious Prix-de-Rome award in 1990, Geuze, with his office West 8 founded in 1987, established an enormous reputation on an international level with his unique approach to planning and design of the public environment. By founding the SLA Foundation (Surrealistic Landscape Architecture) in 1992, Geuze increased public awareness of his profession.

Peter Heuken

Director of Special Projects & Playground Designer

Peter Heuken is an engineer and Richter’s director of special projects worldwide. He began his Richter career in 1992, bringing the team expertise in wood engineering and cabinetry. He has served as project lead for award-winning playgrounds including the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Playground in Kensington Gardens. His creative work animates diverse play environments including Lego Billund Theme Park, Alnwick Castle Tree Walk, Playmobil Leisure Park, and most recently The Petr and Pavel play ship at the New Holland playground in St. Petersburg, Russia. Peter continues to design, dream, play, and create indoor and outdoor play spaces worldwide.
