Landscape architects are uniquely positioned to facilitate agriculture through urban design, enriching our cities with beauty and bounty. This multidisciplinary-led session will illuminate the opportunities and challenges when designing agrihoods and similar urban agriculture projects, with an emphasis on successful development process and tactical design interventions at every scale.

Lara Hermanson

Principal
Farmscape

Lara is a co-founder and Principal at Farmscape, the largest urban farming company in America. She has overseen the design and installation of over 300 urban farming projects including farms at AT&T Park, Levi's Stadium, and the Getty. Farmscape maintains the largest rooftop gardens in California and provides consulting nationwide on Agrihoods and urban farm design.

Patricia Algara

Principal and Co-Founder
BASE Landscape Architecture

Patricia is the granddaughter of an architect and rancher. From this springs her passion and appreciation for beautifully designed and food-productive landscapes. Patricia’s community involvement and advocacy expand the boundaries of traditional landscape architecture. She co-founded BASE Landscape Architecture a design studio that focuses on creating educational and food productive landscapes, With Honey in the Heart, a non-profit that creates habitats for and educates about pollinators. She also started the Algarden Demonstration Urban Farm, a center for permaculture education. She is a recognized leader in sustainable design and community involvement creating landscapes that connect people to nature and food.

Martha Miller

Principal Planner
RRM Design Group

Martha is a land use planner specializing in community planning, development regulations, sustainability planning, coastal planning, and community outreach with a particular emphasis on preparing zoning codes and development regulations for local governmental agencies.With over 15 years of experience working in public agencies and private firms, Martha brings an in-depth understanding of how to translate community vision into a usable and effective set of regulations. She has worked in a wide array of diverse settings, including urban centers, small towns, coastal communities, and rural counties, providing a depth of understanding that allows her to focus quickly on appropriate solutions.

Tim Nash

Director of Landscape Architecture and Exterior Branding
Prometheus Real Estate Group, Inc.

With over 15 years experience as a Landscape and Environmental Designer, Tim is passionate about creating vibrant and ultra-livable multifamily projects with uniquely designed open spaces. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Idaho, Tim spent the bulk of his career working for Portland-based firms, including Koch Landscape Architecture, Murase Associates, and Walker Macy. His collaborative style has allowed him to work on housing, parks, education, and civic projects and he brings an in-depth understanding of how to translate a brand's identity into new developments.
