SAT-A11 - Landscape Architecture and Working Families: A Plan for Your Work Life

The session is an experience panel and audience workshop. Best management practices for flexibility at the workplace, including traditional flexible hours, on/off ramping, and teleworking, will be covered. Attendees will identify and start creating solutions to their individual work situations. Resulting solutions will be collected and shared as a tool kit of options.

Kristina E. Snyder, PLA, owner of Giraffa Studio Design, is the moderator for the program. In addition to work as a landscape architect, she manages and designs adult online education for certification and continuing education for Kansas State University. She is passionate about helping people reach their potential through design and education. She served as the co-chair of the ASLA’s Women in Landscape Architecture Professional Practice Network from 2012-2015 and is current the Chair of the PPN Council at the ASLA.

Kona has practiced on a global stage for 25 years, providing inspiration and enhancing professional awareness. His portfolio ranges from large-scale planning to detailed site design, with emphasis on communities, urban parks, hospitality and campus environments. Blending sensitivity and context with creative design solutions, Kona unites a client’s vision with his vanguard viewpoint producing designs with purpose and presence. Currently, he is designing projects in Florida, Georgia, Virginia, Puerto Rico, The Bahamas, China, Dubai(UAE), Egypt, India, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and St. Lucia. A registered Landscape Architect, Kona earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia.

Kate Douglas Kestyn

Kate has spent her 20+ year career helping some of the most notable design firms in Denver meet their goals. She has a passion for success, with a straightforward, pragmatic approach to projects and solutions. Her experience interfacing with all of the divisions of BrightView (Design, Construction, and Maintenance) gives her an informed perspective of the challenges and opportunities for women in our industry. Kate received a Bachelor's from Iowa State University and is a member of ASLA’s WILA PPN. She is also a member of the "sandwich generation" - caregiver to both two and an aging mother.

Diana Fernandez

Landscape Architect

Diana is a landscape architect at Sasaki Associates, and the past chair of the ASLA Emerging Professionals Committee. Diana’s work ranges from public parks and plazas to private university work. She brings a passion for creative placing making, community engagement, and sustainable urban design.

Diana holds a bachelor’s degree from Temple University, and has served as a guest critic and lecturer for Pennsylvania State University and Temple University. Diana was the recipient of four ASLA awards and has been recognized numerous times for exceptional leadership.
