Join us for an overview of these trends and how they are changing the nation's public realm.
Ignacio Bunster-Ossa is AECOM's Landscape Architecture Practice leader for the Americas. He is the author of Reconsidering Ian McHarg: the Future of Urban Ecology, and co-author with David Rouse of Green Infrastructure, a Landscape Approach, both published by Planners Press. His practice is focused n the integration of green infrastructure and creative placemaking strategies in the public realm, with an emphasis on transportation projects. Prior to joining AECOM in 2015 Ignacio was a Principal at Wallace Roberts & Todd, LLC.

Smart Growth America
Emiko Atherton is the Director of the National Complete Streets Coalition, a program of Smart Growth America. As the Director, Emiko oversees the Coalition’s federal advocacy, communications, research, and technical assistance programs. She has used her expertise in transportation policy, public health, land use, economic development, and legislation to consult with communities across the United States on how to create better transportation networks. Emiko is an international voice on Complete Streets and has spoken to audiences across the country about the value this approach.

Michael J. Jelen, PE is a Vice President of VHB, responsible for VHB’s complete streets programs. He is also Managing Director of VHB’s National Capital District. Over the last 15years Mike has been at the forefront in the transformation of the DC public realm into a healthy and prosperous one. Mike is active in many local and national industry organizaions. He currently serves on the National Complete Streets Coalition Steering Committee, and as President-Elect for the American Council of Engineering Companies of Metropolitan Washington.

Smart Growth America
Ben Stone is Director of Arts & Culture at Smart Growth America and its program Transportation for America. Ben leads the organization’s broad efforts to help communities across the country better integrate arts, culture, and creative placemaking into neighborhood revitalization, equitable development, and transportation planning efforts. Ben holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Tufts University; and a Master in City Planning from MIT, where he focused on land use planning, urban design, and the intersection of the arts and community development.
