FS-008 - Vibrant and Emerging Open Spaces in L.A.’s Eastside

Experience new and historic public spaces within L.A.'s evolving Eastside, including Vista Hermosa Nature Park, Echo Park Lake, Silver Lake Reservoir, Sunset Plaza Triangle, and Griffith Park. Explore these public spaces that welcome and inspire interaction among long-term residents, newcomers, and visitors while catalyzing change in these burgeoning neighborhoods.

$105 per person; includes transportation, bottled water, and catered lunch. Moderate walking.

Margot Jacobs

Mia Lehrer + Associates

Drawing on her background in art, research, and design, Margot’s approach to placemaking combines strategic thinking, community engagement, and sustainable practices to enhance environments and promote meaningful connections. Margot's experience ranges in scale from planning regional and site specific water mitigation systems, civic facilities, and public parks, to designing roof gardens, streetscapes, and residences in the US, Central, and South America. Committed to work that improves quality of life, she is active in water conservation, environmental justice, and pro-bono efforts. Margot earned her Masters of Landscape Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley.

Nathaniel Cormier


Nate's passion is the design of magnetic places that make people want to live in cities. Each project is a story connecting people to the authentic experiences and unique qualities of complex urban environments. Recent work includes Seattle's Bell Street and Hing Hay Parks, Denver's Mile High Loop, and San Diego's Seaport. Nate is currently leading the design of a new oasis central park for Palm Springs. Nate also lectures, teaches and has been a board director of the Landscape Architecture Foundation. Nate has 18 years of professional experience and holds a Masters in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University.

Frank Clementi


Frank Clementi, FAIA, AIGA creates unique and holistic environments that integrate architecture, landscape architecture, product, and graphic design. He embraces the particular ecology of a place, its history, and its people, to deliver culturally relevant, cohesive experiences for all users. Frank is a member of the Los Angeles Mayor's design advisory panel, teaches at Woodbury University and Cal Poly Pomona, and serves as a regular visiting critic at USC, SCI-Arc, and UCLA. The award winning work of his office, RIOS CLEMENTI HALE STUDIOS, and its product design arm, notNeutral, engage people across scales, ranging from dinner plates to public parks.

Marc P. Delouvrier

Senior Landscape Architect

Marc Delouvrier has over 12 years of experience working on high profile, large scale urban projects ranging from open-space planning, mixed-use developments, streetscapes, transit, academic campuses, waterfront development, theme park design and urban parks and plazas. Marc’s work experience covers the complete range of the design process and landscape typologies. His abilities to engage in creative and technical aspects of the design process make him an ideal asset to multi-disciplinary and complex projects. Marc brings a mix of local a worldly knowledge of the field, having worked at both New York-based firms such as Thomas Balsley Associates and MKW + Associates where he focused on urban park and plazas and Los Angeles-based firms such as Melendrez and SWA Group where he worked on local mixed-use, academic campuses, and public streetscape projects.

Tom Gibson

Landscape Architect
City of Los Angeles/Department of Recreation and Parks

Tom Gibson leads the Design Section of the Planning, Construction and Maintenance Branch of the Department. He’s responsible for the advance planning of new parks, and overseeing the re-imaging of existing parks, throughout the design/construction process of capital improvement projects within the Department’s 465 and growing park holdings.
Education: UCLA Extension Landscape Architecture, Department of the Arts. Professional Designation Certificate, 1998
