How do private landscapes affect and influence the public realm? This walking and biking excursion will offer attendees the opportunity to explore Venice, CA as a case study to examine several trends facing design today: the impact of scale on space, the interaction between private and public landscapes, and the harmonious blend or collision of high design with vernacular design.

$185 per person; includes transportation, bike/helmut rentals, bottled water, and catered lunch. Extensive bike riding and walking.

Through his award-winning work and own exploration, Mark's vision for his own company developed – a firm grounded in solid design utilizing sustainability as a core principle. His primary interest is the realization of projects from their conceptual ideas into a structured framework that allow the landscape to grow, adapt and develop with time. Mark's passion for all facets of design fosters a curiosity toward all project types that celebrate and create community, interaction and comfort for inhabitants and users.

Joshua Rosen

Joshua Rosen, is a project manager and licensed landscape architect, working in all aspects of Landscape Architecture from design to project planning, implementation and management. He is passionate about the use of diverse, a climactically appropriate palette, sustainable design practices and environmentally sensitive solutions to projects big and small. Additionally, as an active member of the Santa Monica Architectural Review Board, he combines his knowledge and expertise to guide environments that have artistic, sustainable and social integrity.

Polly Furr

Ms. Furr is the founder of Venice Studio, an atelier providing a full range of landscape architectural services. Describing her gardens as “giant jewelry for the earth,” the practice is informed by her long history of hand-made work in various media. Polly’s 30 years of experience encompass residential, commercial, educational, health-care, children’s and park projects. Prior to establishing her solo practice in 1998, Polly worked with RCH Studios, The SWA Group, and Meacham O’Brien. She holds a BLA from the University of Oregon, and California License #3840.

Jessica strives to design landscapes that maximize the spatial and environmental sensibility of a site while upholding sensitivity to the projects inhabitants. She creates site-specific environments that balanced the needs of the users – families, children, and community — with the existing spaces. Prior to joining Mark Tessier Landscape Architecture, Inc., Jessica developed her sense of regional appropriateness and sense of place during architecture and planning work in New Orleans, Portland and Los Angeles as well as landscape design work in France.

Stash Maleski

ICU Art - In Creative Unity

Stash Maleski is the Director of I.C.U. Art -- an art production company specializing in murals and art exhibitions which features work by Los Angeles graffiti artists. He was the program founder and Curator of the Venice Art Walls which is the legal graffiti art park on City of Los Angeles property in Venice Beach. Stash has been a leading advocate for graffiti artists and muralist rights in LA and the Bay Area and produced hundreds of murals across the US since 1995. Additionally, he has organized public art tours and discussion about graffiti for LACMA, MOCA and UCLA.
