Denise Leaptrot is an infection preventionist/epidemiologist with the CDC’s Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion Surveillance Branch, where she is a member of the National Healthcare Safety Network Protocol and Training Team. In this role, she provides consultation and technical assistance regarding surveillance for healthcare-associated infections. Denise serves as the subject matter expert for MDRO/CDI and surgical site infection surveillance/reporting. She has 30 years combined experience encompassing healthcare epidemiology, infection control/prevention, information technology, and education within public and private healthcare arenas and public health sectors. Denise holds a master’s degree in administration with a focus on management and statistics, a specialty in microbiology, and a bachelor’s degree in medical technology credentialed by the American College of Clinical Pathology. She has been CIC certified for more than 25 years (she recertified in 2016) and is an active member of national and local APIC, as well as state infection control organizations.

Susan McGann is currently the sole Infection Prevention practitioner at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas. Lawrence Memorial is a 173-bed community hospital with 17 clinics in the region. She partners with providers and staff across the organization to continuously focus infection prevention goals to improve patient, employee and visitor safety. She received her BSN from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and MBA from Baker College in Flint, Michigan. She is Board Certified in Infection Prevention and Control. She has been a nurse for 39 years and has over 7 years of experience as an infection preventionist. She was awarded APIC’s Chapter Leadership Award in June of 2016.
