3300 - Competency-Based Education for Healthcare Personnel

Recent proposed changes to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) conditions of participation in acute care hospitals require infection prevention programs to take a direct role in the education of healthcare personnel on the application of infection prevention principles. This program will provide a framework for the development of sustainable infection prevention competency-based education programs for healthcare personnel.

Janet Glowicz has been a registered nurse for over 30 years, with over a decade of experience in critical care nursing and over a decade in infection prevention.Janet recently completed a doctoral degree in nursing research at the University of Texas at Arlington. College of Nursing and Health Innovation. Janet has also completed a fellowship with the American Hospital Association Health Education Research and Trust Stop CAUTI. She currently works for Northrop Grumman at the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control, Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, Prevention and Response Branch with the Hospital Infection Prevention (HIP) team. She is delighted to participate in the collegial relationships needed to prevent infections!

Stacy Martin, RN, BSN, CIC, FAPIC is the Manager of Infection Prevention & Control at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. Stacy completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida State University in 1989 and has been certified in Infection Control for approximately 15 years. Stacy began her career in Infection Control at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare in 1992 following several years as a Newborn Intensive Care nurse. She now has 25 years of experience in Infection Prevention and Control. Stacy is involved in a number of infection control organizations and serves as the President-elect for the Bay Area Professionals in Infection Control, Chapter 055. She is passionate about the role of infection prevention as a vital part of the healthcare team promoting safety for patients, visitors and staff.
