1308 - Multidrug-Resistant Organisms: A Long-Term Care Provider's Challenge in Today's Healthcare Environment

Wednesday, June 14
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Location: Oregon Convention Center, D 135-136

In healthcare, the only constant is change. Multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) pose a serious threat to the health and well-being of our nation. Staying ahead of the numerous MDROs and their potentially deadly effects can be a momentous task for long-term care (LTC) providers. These organizations are required to establish policies and procedures, including a detailed antibiotic stewardship program, incorporated into the overall infection control plan. Lack of resources is a constant risk for LTC providers, especially surrounding the development, implementation, and monitoring of a comprehensive infection control plan. This engaging presentation will provide clinicians with a road map for successful infection control outcomes, including key leadership strategies to assess current systems, identification of challenges of managing MDROs in LTC, implementation strategies, education techniques across all levels of the organization, and monitoring and performance improvement plans via an organization’s Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) program, all from an LTC clinical leader’s perspective.
