Marguerite Avery is Senior Acquisitions Editor at Trinity University Press in San Antonio, TX. She is a veteran of university press and library publishing with more than thirteen years in the industry. Previously she was Executive Editor at Amherst College Press, an experimental digital-first, open-access scholarly press, as well as Senior Acquiring Editor for the Lever Press, a partnership between Amherst and University of Michigan Libraries; these digital-first, Open Access publishers focused on increasing access to and visibility of humanities scholarship.
While at The MIT Press, Avery cultivated a critically acclaimed publishing program in areas including Library and Information Science, STS, Communications and Internet Studies, History of Technology, and Infrastructure Studies. Her authors included R. David Lankes, John Palfrey, Peter Pesic, Lee Rainie, Peter Suber, and Sherry Turkle. She was a fierce advocate for experimenting with digital pubilcations and format, creating The MIT Press Essential Knowlege series with an accompanying iPad format.
Avery holds or has held advisory positions at Pacific University Press, the Digital Public Library of America, and Open Library of Humanities. Until moving to San Antonio, she kept it real as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Somerville Public Library in Massachusetts.
