Recent catastrophes have highlighted the critical role that libraries play in their communities following emergencies. Municipal officials now view libraries as local recovery centers and librarians as Information 1st Responders. Few librarians, however, are prepared to assume the responsibilities associated with this new role with confidence. Available emergency planning and training resources do not specifically address the library's unique community role in planning for, managing through, and recovering from disasters. The customized Librarian's Disaster Preparedness and Community Resiliency Toolkit equips librarians to deliver high-volume/high-quality support services while being inundated by large numbers of distressed people during confusing times.
