Recently, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Lovejoy Library built the Dr. Eugene B. Redmond Learning Center. The main goal of the Learning Center is to enhance the accessibility and research value of their special collections. Another significant goal is make these collections accessible to secondary educators and students to enhance their familiarity with the richness of primary documents in research. From the Center’s inception, the use of open source technology and digital exhibitions have made several special collections more accessible. Diverse technologies are being employed by teaching faculty to engage students in using primary documents in their research projects. The learning center offers opportunities for collaboration with other university and community partners. Join us for a lively discussion in sharing and learning other practical ways to make special collections come alive.
