Southwest Veterinary Internal Medicine
Dr. Mike Matz received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 1983. From 1983 to 1987 he was an associate in a private general practice in Tucson, Arizona. He completed a residency in small animal internal medicine at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990, and in 1991 became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Small Animal Medicine). He was an assistant professor in Small Animal Medicine at Tufts University from 1990 to 1995, before starting his own referral practice, Southwest Veterinary Internal Medicine in Tucson, Arizona. In 2002, Dr. Matz moved to New Zealand to pursue a position at Massey University as senior lecturer and Section Head of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. In 2002 he was honored with the Excellence in Teaching award by the students at Massey University. For the past 13 years Dr. Matz has been in private referral practice in the Tucson area. Dr. Matz has authored articles and book chapters on gastroenterology and endoscopy and has lectured at local, state, national, and international meetings on these topics.
