A recently developed alternative model for understanding psychopathology is the network analysis approach. This approach proposes that symptoms are not a result of a disorder or a manifestation of a latent variable (e.g., depression), but rather mutually interacting components of a multifaceted system (Borsboom & Cramer, 2013). Although several studies have been conducted examining psychopathology by constructing between-subject networks, within-subject networks (i.e., intraindividual network analysis) utilizing time-series data is a developing area of network analysis research that has implications for the understanding of the etiology, maintenance, and treatment of symptoms and distress within individuals.
