While there has been a steady rise in the number of children diagnosed with ASD, access to empirically-supported community-based interventions remains limited. Parent-mediated interventions (PMIs) for core symptoms and co-occurring challenges in children with ASD are gaining empirical support. New advances in PMIs are tackling the issue of access by focusing on the delivery of treatments using novel formats. Telehealth allows specialists to deliver services in real-time over a geographical distance. Online content delivery provides parents access to evidence-based information while reducing barriers to service access. Group treatments deliver content in a cost-effective manner while also conferring the benefit of social support. This panel will present recent findings on four PMI’s that promote advances in the novel delivery of treatments for families and children with ASD by using telehealth, online or group-based formats: 1) engagement and satisfaction with telehealth delivery of the Early Start Denver Model; 2) self-directed community access to the ImPACT Online program; 3) group delivery of the RUBI parent training program for disruptive behavior; and 4) the impact of group mindfulness versus psychoeducation on parent well-being. Successes and challenges with implementation will be discussed. These approaches may help to close the gap between service demand and access.
