Strategic partnerships are an integral part of internationalization strategies; but are the right partners identified? How can the success of the collaboration be measured, and how are the goals tracked and the measures to achieve these goals planned out? These aspects will be discussed by the panelists, and further enhanced by a German-U.S. case study.

Karin Norton is currently Senior Desk Officer for “Internationalization Programmes” at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Bonn. In this position she is in charge of funding program called, “Strategic Partnerships and Thematic Networks”. Karin is a frequent presenter on topics of internationalization on relevant topics at seminars as well as conferences such as NAFSA and APAIE. After receiving her M.A. in German Philology, with minors in Culture Communication Management and Psychology from Muenster University in 2009, she began working for DAAD. Earlier in her career with DAAD she had responsibility for the international program “Study Visits” and was involved in “Marketing for Research in Germany”.

Günter Beck

Dr. Günter Beck is the Project Coordinator at Munich University of Applied Sciences (MUAS) for the strategic partnership with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo,a program funded by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). He studied American Literature and Culture at the University of Augsburg (Germany) and at Brandeis University, Waltham. He holds a PhD in American Studies from the University of Augsburg. There, he also served for many years as a lecturer and coordinated the department's exchange program for graduate students and academic staff with Brandeis University. Subsequently, he served as a lecturer for the DAAD at the University of Haifa (Israel), where he assisted in establishing the new Haifa Center for German and European Studies, a joint German-Israeli project fostering interdisciplinary academic partnerships between the two countries. At MUAS, Günter coordinates activities, resources, and equipment, and advises on information regarding the strategic partnership project with Cal Poly. He is currently developing an appropriate quality and evaluation management to monitor the progress and success of this program

Cari Vanderkar Moore

Dr. Vanderkar Moore is the Senior International Officer for Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where she serves as a strategic partner in leading university global initiatives. Currently she is engaged with the campus community on initiatives involving curriculum internationalization, international student retention and success, and developing strategic international partnerships. Dr. Vanderkar Moore has extensive experience in managing study abroad and exchange programming, program development and administration, faculty-led programing, consortium leadership, and health, safety and risk management. Dr. Vanderkar Moore earned her Ph.D. in cultural anthropology and has been in the field of international education for over 20 years.
